My greyhound Jack writes a blog for our rescue groups’ newsletter. He asked if it would be okay if I published it here. I hope it is .

A Retired Racer’s View on Life

I am now a seasoned camper.  I have camped 14 times this year.

My favorite trip, paws down, was our week long vacation.  We visited Table Rock State Park for four nights and then we moved on to Roaring River State Park for three nights.

Table Rock State Park was so much fun! Scout and I enjoyed walking on the 2.2 mile paved walking/bike trail.  It goes from the marina to the dam.  It is along the lake and the scenery was beautiful.  We highly recommend it, but watch out for the ducks.  I don’t mean real ducks, but those ducks that they drive around.  They go from the road to the water.  We were standing on the trail when they came out of the water and all the people put “duck lips” in their mouths and they quacked at us.  It was the strangest thing and it really scared Scout.  “Quack, Quack, Quack!”  We didn’t expect that at all.

We had surprise visitors at the campground. Romeo and Julie!!!  Their Mom and Dad were told by the camp host that there were two other greys (me and Scout) staying there.  They came over to see us Saturday morning.  Mama saw two greys headed for our motor home and she yelled, “There are two greys!!!!”  Scout and I started dancing around.  It was like having our own meet and greet. We were shocked to find out they were from Greyhound Companions.  The reunion was just the week before our vacation and somehow we missed meeting them there, but we met them at Table Rock. How cool is that?

There was something scary that happened at Table Rock.  I was almost attacked by a Chihuahua.  Let me set the scene for you… Mama, Daddy, Scout and I are walking through the campground and this Chihuahua starts barking at us. He is running back and forth on his cable.  His Mama laughed at him.  The next thing I know, my Mama is screaming “HE’S LOOSE!”  I get scared because this little rat like thing is running towards me at full speed and barking.  My Daddy firmly grabs my collar because I am so scared that I am standing up on two legs.  The next thing I know, something hits me in the butt.  I screamed.  Daddy said I screamed like a girl, but I don’t care.  I thought I was a goner.   Daddy starts laughing and then tells me that it was not the dog that got me, but him.  I swear, my life flashed before my eyes.  Daddy took the dog back to his owner and we didn’t go past their campsite again.
