Texting Withdrawal
We went camping this weekend and we had two teenagers and one pre-teenager in our group who went through texting withdrawal. We were at a campground where cell phone service was hard to come by. I knew the moment that the one teen stepped out of the truck that she was in for a shock. She had her cell phone in her hand and looked like she would cry when she announced that she did not have a signal.
The teens checked their phones almost constantly the first night. They would become excited if they were able to get a “bar” and they would text as fast as they could to the outside world. The checking dwindled down as the weekend went on, but I know the phones were not put away. They had them in their pockets and from time to time one would announce that a message had come through.
It’s sad that so many devices are brought to campgrounds now. What happened with re-connecting to family around the campground? I have to admit that I plan to purchase a new laptop in the near future so that I can take it with me when we travel. It will be for work though, really it will be.
