Montauk State Park

Published by pattye at 1:52 pm under Living Edit This

We took our last camping trip of the season this past weekend.  We stayed at Montauk State Park.  It is a trout fishing park.  Unfortunately, trout fishing was not allowed this past weekend.  It will start up again on November 14th.

The weather was cloudy, windy and cool.  I think the highs were in the low 40’s.  Friday we walked around at the park. We visited the fish hatchery and drove by the old mill. Friday night, we ate the park’s restaurant. The food was good.

Saturday, we took a driving tour.  We drove across Aker’s Ferry.  My husband told me we were taking a ferry and I assumed it would hold several cars. This ferry only holds one car at a time.  We honked the horn and a teenager came out of a house and took us across.  It was different.

The photo of the ferry was taken from http://www.gopaddle.com/html/akers_ferry.html

Here is a website that gives you a nice tour of the area that we visited.

We then drove to Alley Spring Mill.  It was really pretty.  I can only imagine how pretty it must be when the trees have their leaves.  I can picture it as a nice place for an outdoor wedding.

We ate a late lunch in Salem, MO at a buffet restaurant and then drove back to the campground.

We had a nice weekend.  It would have been nicer if the weather would have been better, but that’s the chance you take when you travel.
