Homemade Frozen Dog Treats

My dogs love frozen treats.  I used to buy them all the time when I just had one dog.  It became too expensive when Scout came along to have them quite so often.  I started making my own frozen treats and the dogs have not complained.

I buy non-fat vanilla yogurt in the 2 lb container and place that in the blender.  I then add in a few tablespoons of peanut butter and blend it well.  I have also used canned pumpkin and even fresh fruits such as bananas.  Applesauce is also something that can be used.  Jack only likes the peanut butter.  Scout will eat anything.

I purchased small plastic containers that are freezer safe.  I have only had to throw a few away because they cracked after several uses.

A two-pound container of yogurt makes 10 servings.  It is approximately $.30 a serving as opposed to the $.91 when I buy the frozen treats already made.

I still purchase the ready made frozen treats when we camp just because it’s more convenient.  The store bought ones come in a box and the containers are just tossed when used.  I guess I should make my own for camping, but then I would have to wash the containers and remember to carry them back into the house when the camping trip is complete.  We try to make camping easy and the less work involved, the better.

This is just one of the things that I have done to save money during these hard times. Sure, the dogs could do without, but it doesn’t cost me that much money and the dogs definitely enjoy eating them.
