A Visit To My Bird Feeder

Published by pattye under Living Edit This

It is very cold here this week.  We went from the low 60’s on Sundays to a high in the teens on Monday. Our birdfeeders are really busy.  I have a big feeder that sits near the road, but it is still in a wooded area and I can see it from my office window.  I used to keep it full, but grew frustrated because the raccoons would empty it out at night.  I am now just putting out enough food for one day at a time. I just can’t afford to feed the birds AND the raccoons.

I put two feeders up on our sliding doors this summer and have enjoyed watching the birds feed up close.  I have a suet feeder and a seed feeder. Today has been the busiest day so far.  The seed feeder is very small, so only one bird at a time feeds.  It was like a revolving door today though. The birds were scared of me at first, but I hid behind the curtain and was able to get a few good shots.

This is a Tufted Titmouse. It is found in Missouri year-round. I think these birds are just adorable and are among my favorite birds.

As I write this, there are turkey feeding in the yard.  They eat dropped sunflower seeds from the feeders and corn that I put out for them.  While I really hate winter, I do enjoy watching the wildlife that come to my yard to eat.
