Cold Day!
It’s cold this morning. I’m not freaking out as much as the news people are. They like to hype up everything. It is 0 degrees without the windchill. I’m not sure what the windchill is. Schools are closed here. I don’t remember having school closed due to cold weather when I was a child.
We have propane heat, but we try to heat our house with our fireplace. Our fireplace is much like a wood stove. It has glass doors and a blower. You can adjust how fast the wood burns. We really like it, but it’s a lot of work. Cutting wood, stacking wood, cleaning the glass doors and emptying ashes can be a pain. It’s a challenge on a day like this to warm the house. I figure I will be lucky if I can get the living room and kitchen to 72. I’m thinking that I may be able to get it to 70. Today will be tough.
Yesterday, I impressed my husband because when he arrived home from work the temperature in the house was 77. He said that I must have worked really hard to get it that warm. I told him that I was surprised to find a good fire still going when I returned from town. I had slowed down the burning in hopes that I would at least have some hot ashes to work with to restart to the fire, but I actually still had a nice fire going. I kept it going the rest of the day because I knew the temperatures were dropping quickly and our goal is to mainly heat with wood. I was successful yesterday. I suspect today will be a different story.
Stay warm everyone!
