Economy Appears To Be Hurting Pet Adoptions

Published by pattye under Greyhounds Edit This

Yesterday we took our greyhounds, Jack and Scout, to a meet and greet.  Meet and greets are a great way to educate the public about a particular breed.  We had several people who came over to meet the dogs.  Many seemed surprised to see that greyhounds are so docile and loving.  We had a few people who were interested in adopting a greyhound, but not right now.

Jayden

(Jayden has been waiting for his forever home for several months now.)

The economy is hurting everyone right now and that includes pet adoptions.  Last year was a rough year for our group.  I don’t know how many dogs we adopted out, but we have had many of the same dogs waiting for a forever home for several months.  It’s a sad situation.  We cannot save other greyhounds until the ones we have are adopted.  I hate to think how many dogs are being put down because there are not homes for them.  Yes, greyhounds are put down due to lack of homes and it is not always humanely.  Greyhounds are considered livestock and the owner can dispose of them anyway they want.  You really don’t want to know how it is sometimes done.  It will make you sick. My Jack is truly a rescue.  He was found ABANDONED in a barn.  Luckily, he and 24 other greyhounds were found right before that barn was bulldozed.

While I enjoyed the meet and greet yesterday, it was still sad thinking of all the dogs that will never find a home.  I really hope this economy turns around soon.   I really wish I could do more for the dogs, but like others, the economy is affecting me too.
