We have a new President!

It’s official, we have a new President.   I have watched the coverage all morning long even though I didn’t think I would.  I couldn’t turn away.  I find it all interesting.  I enjoy hearing the history of past presidents.

I thought it was quite interesting that President Obama used the Bible that President Lincoln used to be sworn in.  Imagine, the Bible used by the President that freed the slaves being used by the first African American President.  No other President has used that Bible since President Lincoln.  I don’t understand why no one else has chosen to use it.

CBS said that since the swearing in ran a few minutes behind that Vice President Biden was actually President after noon. I know they were quite concerned with that happening all morning.

I enjoy watching all the Presidents gather today on a happy occasion.  They all seem to be getting along.  The first President Bush and President Clinton are now friends.  Time can heal wounds, I guess.

Personally, I am a person that does not enjoy conflict.  I truly hope that President Obama will inspire Democrats and Republicans to get a along and work together.  I also hope that his presidency will help with race relations.

Today is definitely a day for the history books.

President Obama

Today is the day that we get a new President.  I know many people are beyond excited.  I’m getting a little tired of all the celebrities talking about it.  Oprah is really getting on my nerves and I normally really like her.  Honestly, I do not like celebrities pushing their views on me.  It seems like the democrats do that more than the republicans.  Okay, you may have figured out that I’m a republican and not a democrat.

I did not vote for Mr. Obama, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t like him or respect him.  I think he has a very lovely family.  I really like his wife.  I really wasn’t thrilled with either candidate in the election. It’s funny how people forget that when a candidate makes campaign promises, it does not mean that those promises will be met.  The President can only do so much and if he doesn’t have support, well, the change doesn’t happen.  I was very close to voting democrat which would have shocked the entire family because my family is very republican.  In the end, I felt that McCain had more experience.  I’m not sure if any republican could have won the election given the bad economy.  We need a change.

Today, the change begins.  I hope and pray that President Obama can turn things around. I know he will because things have to change.  I don’t think it would have mattered who was President really.  I mean, the economy will improve within the next four years.  I do think that having President Obama in the White House will speed it along.  Everyone seems to love him and they want to work with him.  The media loves him and it will be interesting if all the reports of gloom and doom lift once he is in office.  I think just doing that will improve the mood of the country.  I know it will improve my mood.  I get depressed enough with my own money situation without having to hear that it is only going to get worse.

I would like to say a thank you to President Bush for keeping us safe after 9/11. You may not like him, but he has kept terrorist from attacking us again on our soil.

Here’s my toast to the new President and the first family… May God bless you, guide you and keep you safe.
