Snow Brings Many Visitors

Published by pattye under Country Life, Greyhounds Edit This

The dogs and I have had many visitors this week because of the snow.  We have not seen another human, but we have seen a lot of wildlife. We have seen deer, turkey and feral cats.  There, of course, have been many birds at our feeder this week.

I am really surprised by how long the turkey have stayed in our yard feeding off of the corn that I put out for them and the deer.  They normally just eat a little and leave within a few minutes.  On Wednesday, there were two turkey that stayed an entire hour.  After they left, I put out more corn for them and later in the day, the turkey came back,  They seemed thrilled to find more food.  I watched them eat and wondered how filling corn is.  I mean, they just swallow the kernal whole.  How much corn do you have to eat to feel full?  It seems like it would have to be a lot of corn.

I know that turkey roost in trees, but I have never seen it done in my front yard.  There were three turkeys on a branch.  They kept jumping up and down on it.  I took several photos of them because it was such an unique sight for me.

All of these photos are taken through the window, so the quality is not the best. Turkey tend to scatter if they hear a noise, so I have to stay inside to take their photos.

Yesterday, Mama deer and her babies were in our backyard.  They normal come to the front of the house because that is where the food is.  Jack and Scout were as surprised as I was to see them.

The dogs have spent the past few days running from window to window to see what new creatures are invading their yard.  They have had a great time!
