My Wild Trip to Florida - Part 3

(This is one of my favorite photos of Sami.)

Sami and I made it through the night without any further problems.  We woke up early and I couldn’t go back to sleep, so we decided to head out on the final day of our journey.

It was still dark out when we left.  I think we were right outside of Atlanta when we changed highways.  I remember seeing a sign that said “if this sign is flashing, you are going too fast”, well, it was flashing.  I’m not sure how I didn’t crash.  We were sliding all over the highway and my tires were squealing.   Sami ended up falling on the floor of the car.  She gave me the biggest stink-eye of her life.  We ended up coming out of it without any injuries or damage.  I’m still not sure how I managed that.  It left my knees weak and me shaking for quite a while.

Sami and I were making really good time.  We stopped at McDonalds for lunch and then I pulled into a nearby gas station.  I was filling up the car with gas when a service station attendant came out and asked if I wanted him to check under the hood.  I thought that was odd and against my better judgment, I let him.  I paid for my gas and then tried to start my car.  It would not start.  I immediately thought he had done something to it.  He came back out and he couldn’t get it to start.  They pushed it into the service bay.  The mechanic checked it out and told me what was wrong.  I don’t remember what it was now, but it cost me like $380.  What could I do?  I had to pay them to fix it.  I couldn’t get a hold of my husband.  I was in Florida and on my own.   It took a few hours to fix and as I was waiting, I remembered seeing this type of thing happen on 20/20 just a few weeks before. People would pull into a gas stations, attendants would check the under the hood and then the car wouldn’t run because they were really doing things to the engine.  It probably was not a smart thing to do, but before I left, I mentioned to the service attendant what I had seen on 20/20. He really got angry with me.

To be continued… we are almost there.
